Call it the battle of the teenagers: 18-year-old Briton Tom Daley, one of the host nation's brightest hopes for a gold medal, joins partner Peter Waterfield in a 10-metre synchro diving contest Monday that pits them against 19-year-old Chinese superstar Qiu Bo and partner Huo Liang.

Qiu and Huo are the reigning world champions and will present a formidable challenge to the British tandem, who topped the World Cup circuit and badly want to win Britain's first gold of the Games.

As The Independent put it: "Real sporting greatness is within Tom Daley's grasp here."

No pressure, kid.
