The Canadian men's beach volleyball duo of Josh Binstock and Martin Reader defeated Steve Grotowski and John Garcia-Thompson of Great Britain 21-19, 21-13 on Saturday at Horse Guards Parade.

It was the first preliminary-round match for both teams at the London Olympics.

Binstock, from Richmond Hill, Ont., and Reader, from Comox Valley, B.C., looked comfortable from the start despite playing the local favourites in front of a raucous crowd.

Brazil and Norway are the other teams in Pool F.

Sixteen of the 24 teams entered in the tournament will qualify for the knockout phase.
