Olympic candidate Chistine (Peng Peng) Lee of Toronto will undergo an MRI examination in her knee in Toronto Wednesday morning to determine the extent of a knee injury suffered the day before the start of the 2012 Canadian gymnastics championships on Tuesday in Regina.
Lee, who helped Canada qualify a full women's team for the upcoming Olympics, suffered a suspected dislocated left knee during a practice session on Monday while attempting a double twisting Yurchenko vault.
"It's too early to speculate about whether Peng Peng can recover from this injury in time for the Olympics," said Gymnastics Canada President and CEO, Jean Paul Caron of Ottawa. "We are going to wait for the MRI results and hope for the best."
Lee and Canada's other top female gymnasts are vying to win a berth on the five-member Olympic team with results from the Canadian championships and a final qualification meet at the end of June counting heavily towards the outcome.
