The Poland squad for the Euro 2012 finals comprises the following 23 players:

GOALKEEPERS

Wojciech Szczesny (Arsenal) Born: 18.04.90 Caps: 10. The agile 22-year-old has become first choice for club and country. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Szczesny, who earned several vital points for his club last season, could be the club's number one for years to come. Szczesny's father, Maciej, was also the national team goalkeeper.

Przemyslaw Tyton (PSV Eindhoven) Born: 04.01.1987 Caps: 5. The 25-year-old ended his first season for PSV Eindhoven with the Dutch Cup after recovering from a serious concussion last year. Firm second choice behind Arsenals Wojciech Szczesny.

Grzegorz Sandomierski (Jagiellonia Bialystok) Born: 05.09.1989 Caps: 3. A last-minute replacement for Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski, out with a back injury. The 22-year-old is back on loan at Jagiellonia Bialystok in Poland, having signed a five-year contract with Belgian side Genk a year ago.

DEFENDERS

Lukasz Piszczek (Borussia Dortmund) Born: 03.06.85 Caps: 24 Goals: 0. One of Borussia Dortmund's powerful Polish trio, Piszczek started his career as a striker but is now one of the Bundeliga's best right backs valued for his pace, stamina and pinpoint crosses. Banned by the Polish FA for six months for match-fixing in 2006 with then-club Zaglebie Lubin.

Marcin Wasilewski (Anderlecht) Born: 09.06.80 Caps: 48 Goals: 2. Reprieved at the last minute after being banned following a row over a night out in Germany during the Belgian league season, Wasilewski is regarded as Poland's defensive axeman. Has made an impressive comeback after suffering a compound shin fracture in 2010 during Anderlecht's clash with Standard Liege. Belgian champion with the club last season.

Jakub Wawrzyniak (Legia Warsaw) Born: 07.07.83 Caps: 26 Goals: 0. Made the most of an injury to Sebastian Boenisch last year to challenge for a starting spot as Poland's left back. Useful in attack but sometimes lacks concentration in defence. Returned to Legia Warsaw from Panathinaikos after failing a doping test in 2009.

Marcin Kaminski (Lech Poznan) Born: 15.01.92 Caps: 3 Goals: 0. A talented 20-year-old centre back, Kaminski made his international debut in a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina last year. Was on the bench for February's friendly against Portugal but may struggle to even get that far this time.

Grzegorz Wojtkowiak (TSV 1860 Munich) Born: 26.01.84 Caps: 19 Goals: 0. An experienced right back, considered one of the best defenders in the Polish league, his 13-year career has been plagued by serious injuries. He tore cruciate ligaments in 2009 having previously suffered ankle ligament damage. Recently joined German second division side TSV 1860 Munich from Lech Poznan.

Sebastian Boenisch (Werder Bremen) Born: 01.01.87 Caps: 6 Goals: 0. Haunted by repeated knee injuries that have kept him out of the Bundesliga for more than a year, the former Germany under-21 defender has won six caps since September 2010, and looks likely to start at left back.

Damien Perquis (Sochaux) Born: 10.04.84 Caps: 7 Goals: 1. Perquis has recovered from breaking an arm in March to establish himself as an almost certain starter. Adopted Polish nationality in late 2011, making his international debut against Germany.

MIDFIELDERS

Eugen Polanski (Mainz) Born: 17.03.86 Caps: 8 Goals: 0. At age six, Polanski emigrated to Germany where he captained the under-21s. The blond defensive midfielder was still rejecting offers to play for Poland in 2010 but changed his mind last year.

Dariusz Dudka (Auxerre) Born: 12.09.83 Caps: 63 Goals: 2. Versatile Dudka can cover at least four positions, including playing on the left despite being right-footed.

Adam Matuszczyk (Fortuna Duesseldorf) Born: 14.02.89 Caps: 19 Goals: 1. Joined German second division side Duesseldorf on loan from Cologne earlier this year to ensure first team football, helping them win promotion to the Bundesliga.

Adrian Mierzejewski (Trabzonspor) Born: 06.11.86 Caps: 20 Goals: 1. Voted Poland's Player of the Year last season, Mierzejewski joined two other Poles when he moved to Trabzonspor in Turkey. Nicknamed 'Andres' by coach Franciszek Smuda because of his resemblance to Spain's Andres Iniesta.

Jakub Blaszczykowski (Borussia Dortmund) Born: 14.12.85 Caps: 51 Goals: 9. Likeable captain and one of three Polish internationals at Borussia, Blaszczykowski is one of the hardest working members of the squad. A pacy winger and brilliant dribbler, he has become a favourite of Dortmund supporters and often wears his nickname "Kuba" on his shirt.

Ludovic Obraniak (Girondins Bordeaux) Born: 10.11.84 Caps: 23 Goals: 5. The diminutive Frenchman-turned-Pole had a brilliant debut, scoring twice against Greece in 2009. A transfer to Bordeaux from Lille, where he spent much time on the bench, helped revive his form. Soon after the move, he scored twice against Lille including the winner. Recent media reports say that, burdened by his poor Polish, he has struggled to get along with the rest of the squad.

Maciej Rybus (Terek Grozny) Born: 19.08.89 Caps: 20 Goals: 1. Joined Terek Grozny in February 2012, but soon after said he hoped to leave the Chechen team for a bigger club.

Kamil Grosicki (Sivasspor) Born: 08.06.88 Caps: 13 Goals: 0.

Once known as a gambling addict, a weakness that cost him his stint at Poland's Legia Warsaw, Grosicki went into rehab in 2007. He moved to Sion in Switzerland where he also struggled before joining Sivasspor, in Turkey, in 2011. Has recovered his form and begun to attract attention from other clubs.

Rafal Murawski (Lech Poznan) Born: 09.10.81 Caps: 43 Goals: 1. The experienced Murawski has returned to the Polish league after two years in Russia. A combative midfielder, he has been struggling with injury this year but has proven his fitness for the finals and may start in central midfield.

Rafal Wolski (Legia Warsaw) Born: 10.11.1992 Caps: 3 Goals: 0. Regarded as one of Poland's biggest talents, the 19-year-old took the first team at Polish Cup winners Legia Warsaw by storm with a series of stunning goals to secure last-minute inclusion in the squad. Said to be a target for German champions Borussia Dortmund, where he could join the established Polish trio of Piszczek, Blaszczykowski and Lewandowski.

FORWARDS

Robert Lewandowski (Borussia Dortmund) Born: 21.08.88 Caps: 42 Goals: 14. Third top scorer in the Bundesliga this season with 22 goals, he is one of a Polish trio at German double winners Borussia Dortmund on whom the co-hosts are resting the bulk of their Euro 2012 hopes. The popular Warsaw-born striker signed a four-year contract in Germany in 2010 but has made it clear that he wants to play in England or Spain.

Pawel Brozek (Celtic) Born: 21.04.83 Caps: 34 Goals: 8. On loan to Celtic, right-footed striker Brozek left twin brother and fellow Poland defender Piotr at Trabzonspor in Turkey.
