Toronto FC selected defender Adrian Cann as its most valuable player for 2010 and named goalkeeper Stefan Frei its humanitarian of the year.
The 30-year-old from Thornhill, Ont., made 26 appearances in his first season with TFC, providing a strong presence in the centre of the defence.
"It is a surprise to me because a lot of players had a very good year," Cann said in a release. "It was great to be back playing at home this year with lots of support from my family and friends."
Cann, chosen 16th overall in the 2004 draft by Colorado, has also played for the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps. He also spent two years playing in Europe with Danish team Esberg FB.
Frei's working in the community was recognized with the humanitarian award.
Toronto captain Dwayne De Rosario was the team's Golden Boot winner with a career-high 15 regular season goals.
