Canada will play in a group with Mexico, Martinique and Cuba at this summer’s Gold Cup.

The Canadian men, currently ranked 78th in the world, will play Martinique – which is unranked because it is not a member of FIFA – on June 15 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., before facing No. 18 Mexico on June 19 in Denver and No. 174 Cuba on June 23 in Charlotte.

Each of the matchdays will feature Group A doubleheaders.

The four groups were announced at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, 100 days from the 15th edition of the CONCACAF championship, which has been expanded to 16 teams.

It was already known that Mexico, No. 38 Costa Rica, No. 61 Honduras and the No. 24 Americans would head up the groups.

The top two in each pool will advance to the knockout quarter-finals.

The seeded countries were the four highest-ranked teams in the region based on the CONCACAF ranking index for September, 2018: Mexico (No. 1), the United States (2), Costa Rica (3) and Honduras (4). Canada was No. 6 after Panama.

The tournament runs June 15 to July 7, with the final slated for Soldier Field in Chicago

There are three host countries with Honduras and Costa Rica joining the United States, which will be home for most of the matches.

“Following a strong showing in CONCACAF Nations League qualifying, we need these tougher tests now,” Canada coach John Herdman said in a statement. “The CONCACAF Gold Cup will be important for our preparations for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.”

CONCACAF, whose president is Canadian Victor Montagliani, covers North and Central America and the Caribbean.
