Robert Steadward of Edmonton faces mandatory retirement tomorrow as president of the International Paralympic Committee, after completing three four-year mandates. During Steadward's tenure, the Games for athletes with disabilities were packaged with the Olympic Games. Summer and Winter host cities are required to stage both sets of Games. The IPC will vote for Steadward's successor at annual meetings in Athens. The IPC general assembly has submitted a motion to create an honorary president position for Dr. Steadward. Two other Canadians, Laurel Crosby of Ladner, B.C., and Dr. Donald Royer of Sherbrooke, Que., are candidates for vice-presidential seats on the executive committee.
