Genie Bouchard advanced on Monday to the main draw of the Luxembourg Open by defeating Jessika Ponchet of France, 6-2, 7-5 in the final round of qualifying.

Bouchard had never faced Ponchet before Monday. The Canadian star broke early and wrapped up the first set in just 43 minutes.

The pair traded breaks early in the second set before Bouchard broke Ponchet in the 11th game, then held serve to win.

On Sunday, Bouchard defeated Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann 6-3, 6-1 in an earlier qualifying round.

There are only 32 players in the main draw. Bouchard opens the main draw on Tuesday against Timea Babos of Hungary.
