University of New Brunswick forward Hunter Tremblay was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's hockey player of the year Wednesday.
The five-foot-10, 195-pound native of Timmins, Ont., captured the CIS scoring title with 57 points this season.
Tremblay, who had 25 goals and 32 assists in 27 games, was the only player in the country to average over two points per game (2.11). He also led the CIS with eight game-winning goals and five short-handed goals, helping the Varsity Reds to a 27-1-0 record.
McGill right-winger Francis Verreault-Paul of Mashteviatsh, Que., and Alberta right-winger Chad Klassen of Saskatoon were the other finalists for the Senator Joseph A. Sullivan Trophy.
Also Wednesday, McGill blue-liner Marc-Andre Dorion was named defenceman of the year and Steve Christie of Manitoba took the nod for goaltender of the year.
The rookie of the year honour went to UPEI forward Jared Gomes while UQTR right-winger was named most sportsmanlike player.
UNB's Gardiner MacDougall was named coach of the year and Alberta forward Tyler Metcalfe was named outstanding student-athlete.
Tremblay, Verreault-Paul and Klassen were also named to the all-Canadian first team. Doiron and Andrew Hotham of Saint Mary's were named on defence while Christie took the goaltending honour.
