Barney Williams of Salt Spring Island, B.C., and Jake Wetzel of Saskatoon won the men's pair in 6 minutes 20.25 seconds at the final race of the Canadian national rowing trials at Elk Lake in Victoria. They were followed by 2002 medalists Adam Kreek of London, Ont., and Jeff Powell of Winnipeg in 6:24.10, and, in third, Kevin Light of Sidney, B.C., and Cameron Baerg of Saskatoon in 6:24.98. The lightweight men's pair event saw Gavin Hassett of Victoria and Jon Mandick of Edmonton win in 6:35.02. Fiona Milne of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., who dominated the lightweight women's event at this regatta, won the final in 7:32.91. Jeff Bujas of St. Catharines, Ont., won the lightweight men's single in 7:08.58. Former Olympic medalist (men's eight) Darren Barber of Vancouver, back in national action after a lengthy absence, won the men's single in 6:50.57.
