Canadian actress Ellen Page is no stranger to rave reviews for her performances. But the Oscar nominee isn't happy with the latest acclaim — because it's not for her work.
Page said a newly launched video game The Last of Us features a character that resembles her, even though she's starring in another, yet-to-be-released game.
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond: Two Souls, so it was not appreciated," Page said Sunday during an Ask Me Anything question-and-answer session with fans on the website Reddit.
She was responding to one poster who remarked that Ellie, the baby-faced protagonist in The Last of Us, looks like Page.
"She even sounds like you," wrote MozeoSLT. "So much so that almost everyone assumed it was you playing the role."
The trailer for the zombie-themed game depicts Ellie clad in a T-shirt, carrying a backpack with much of her brown hair swept back into a messy ponytail.
Page has also been getting positive, although misdirected, feedback about the role on Twitter — praise she's been redirecting to the actress who actually played Ellie, Ashley Johnson.
Naughty Dog, the company behind The Last of Us, could not be reached for comment.
Neil Druckmann, creative director at Naughty Dog, indirectly addressed the controversy Sunday, tweeting that Ellie was "perfect played" by Johnson.
"No one could've done a better job," he wrote.
Page is playing the role of Jodie Holmes in Quantic Dream's Beyond: Two Souls alongside actor Willem Dafoe through motion-capture technology, which allows movements to be recorded. Its website describes the game as a "unique psychological action thriller."
"Making Beyond was an incredible experience," Page wrote on Reddit. "I think what (director) David Cage is doing is really remarkable, the first of its kind and I feel grateful to be involved."
