The premier maker of emotionally involving and engrossing episodic video games is joining forces with pay-TVs biggest success story to bring the Game of Thrones cable series to mobile, PC and console gamers.

HBO and Telltale Games announced their partnership on the new game, inspired by the cable channel's adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire books, in a press release Monday.

Telltale blew gamers minds with the ethical and moral choices of 2012's The Walking Dead, which won multiple game of the year honours. A full sequel to that game is due out before Christmas.

It has not found a similar level of success with The Wolf Among Us, but the Game of Thrones franchise is a vastly richer world to explore; The HBO series has won over huge audiences with its mix of politics, war, magic and of course sex and violence.

"Since the very beginning, Telltale's goal has been to work alongside the most talented and respected forces in entertainment, bringing their worlds to the interactive space as no other game studio can," wrote Dan Connors, co-founder and CEO of Telltale Games in a press release. "Working with HBO to develop a new game series based on Game of Thrones is a natural fit for our studio. This partnership will create an experience that will captivate the huge, global Game of Thrones audience. It will put them in control of the epic stories of warfare, intrigue, violence and revenge that we know and love."
