Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s website is now offering a free classified ad service.

Walmart.com launched the service in late May, and it is currently in beta - or test - mode. Shoppers can post or browse ads for items like cars, real estate, pets and jobs.

"Our new classifieds beta at Walmart.com provides an expanded offering of products and services, the majority of which are not traditionally available from Wal-Mart," Walmart.com spokesman Ravi Jariwala said in an e-mailed statement.

The service is being powered by Oodle, which runs an online classified advertising web site and collects classified ad listings from the web.

"As a matter of policy, we don't disclose financial data or details of the agreement," Jariwala said of Walmart.com's partnership with Oodle.
